Overview

The Merkur PerFEKT Challenge is a national technical competition organised by VUT FEKT Brno, using the classic Czech Merkur construction set. Teams build autonomous vehicles or robots and compete in tasks requiring precision, autonomy, and engineering ingenuity.

Our team from SŠ Edvarda Beneše Břeclav entered in the Autonomous Transport Vehicle category — designing and programming a self-navigating vehicle to complete a defined transport task.

What I did

• Designed the vehicle's mechanical structure using the Merkur kit components
• Developed embedded firmware for autonomous navigation and task execution
• Implemented sensor-based line following and obstacle detection
• Tuned motor control and PID for smooth, reliable movement
• Won 1st place in the Autonomous Transport Vehicle category
• Advanced to the super-final against winners of all other categories — won again

Outcome

First place in the autonomous vehicle category, then first place in the overall national super-final — competing against all category winners from the same event.
